How do I choose a good stucco contractor in Alberta?

Confirm Alberta licensing, liability insurance, and Workers' Compensation coverage, then ask for a written estimate and a written warranty rather than verbal promises. Review a portfolio for colour and texture matching, and check Google and other reviews. A contractor who holds a journeyman plasterer trade and installs a single manufacturer system is a strong sign.

Should a stucco contractor be licensed and insured in Alberta?

Yes. A legitimate Alberta stucco contractor carries valid licensing, liability insurance that protects your property during the work, and Workers' Compensation coverage for the crew. Without WCB coverage, a homeowner can be exposed if a worker is injured on site. Always confirm these before signing, not after the job starts.

What are red flags when hiring a stucco contractor?

Verbal-only estimates, unusually low bids, no written warranty, pressure to pay large deposits up front, and a crew with no verifiable local track record are all warning signs. Mixing material brands can also void a manufacturer warranty. A clear written quote, a written warranty, and a checkable history are what separate a reliable contractor from a risky one.
